A pizza delivery person was once asked to choose between Bitcoin and $ 5 cash as the tip back in 2013 and he chose Bitcoin. He resurfaced 7 years later to enjoy the high value reward of his tip.
According to a post from Redditor btcbible, the bitcoin owner ordered a pizza on 28th December 2013. The person gave the pizza delivery guy two options to choose from for his tip. One was a simple $ 5 cash tip and the other option was 0.0069 Bitcoin (BTC) on a paper wallet which valued the same as $ 5 at that time since the value of 1 BTC was equal to $ 774 back then.
However, 7 years and 2 months later in February 2021, the pizza delivery driver resurfaced and reportedly contacted btcbible. He did that to seek help on how to convert the funds into a hot wallet. The value of one Bitcoin has risen as high as $ 60,000 in the recent times. With this, the value of his tip has also taken a jump of over 7800% since the time the driver had put a brake on his vehicle on the door of the person to deliver his pizza.
The tip which was equal to $ 5 in 2013 is roughly worth $ 450 now. No wonder the pizza delivery driver intended to cash on his reward of a wise decision.
“I let the pizza guy choose between $5 in fiat or BTC. “Needless to say, he chose wisely. I responded with instructions on how to import the private key via Electrum.” said btcbibble.
However, the Redditor also mentioned that at that time, they (the family of the person who paid the tip) were not Bitcoin rich. They had just liquidated majority of their bitcoin funds to buy a home in the previous year. According to the redditor, the Pizza delivery driver had heard of bitcoin from the news and his surroundings at that time. He had a rough and general idea of it but he was obviously very new to it.
In May 2010, a programmer in United States had used Bitcoin for transaction for the first time. He ordered a couple of pizzas for Papa John’s store and paid 10,000 bitcoins for it instead of the dollars. Today, the value of those 2 pizzas, i.e, the total worth of 10,000 BTC is approximately $ 600 million.
